Dr. Amanda Kennedy joined the Sociology/Criminal Justice Department as an Assistant Professor in 2016. She also acts as coordinator of the Women's and Gender Studies program. Dr. Kennedy graduated with her PhD from Stony Brook University, where her research focused on gender and sexuality politics in men’s rights activism. Her research interests include Gender Studies, Health and Medicine, Sexuality, and Embodiment (see her CV here). As such, she teaches courses like Gendered Lives, Sociology of Medicine and the Body, Reproduction and Inequality, Intersectionality, and Introduction to Sociology.

Amanda seeks to link dynamic learning in the classroom to exciting extracurriculars on campus. She has invited filmmakers, speakers, and activists to campus to host discussions and screenings. Dr. Kennedy helped students organize open forums on some of today's most important issues: Black Lives Matter, the #MeToo movement, contemporary campus activism, and women in STEM. She has a deep commitment to empowering students both personally and academically, motivating her work on campus diversity initiatives, accessibility issues, and student advising. She also assists students in presenting and publishing their own research.
