Professor Nancarrow's research focuses on U.S. Legal and Constitutional history, Gilded Age and Progressive Era America, and the interaction of law and politics in American history. Currently, he is working on several projects, including the politics of judicial reform in the early twentieth century, Progressive Era legal controversies over municipal franchises and free speech, and a book on law and politics in Progressive Era Ohio.
Professor Nancarrow has received financial support from the American Historical Association's Littleton-Griswold fund for research in U.S. legal history, as well as the North Caroliniana Society. He has presented papers at several local, national, and international conferences, including the Policy History Conference (2002), Centre de Recherches sur l'Histoire des Etats-Unis (Paris) conference on Federalism in the Americas (2003), the American Society for Legal History (2005), and the Organization of American Historians Midwest Regional (2006). In addition, he has participated in two conferences sponsored by the Institute for Constitutional Studies at George Washington University Law School.
Professor Nancarrow teaches U.S. History I and II, The Making of Modern America, 1890-1945, and Contemporary American History, 1945-present. Each class is writing-intensive, with students expected to develop and improve analytical writing abilities in addition to building solid knowledge of the course material. Courses in development include U.S. Legal and Constitutional History and a Capstone course.
Professor Nancarrow is the Coordinator of the Integrated Liberal Studies major, as well as a member of the Department of Politics and History.
